Yes you can run 2 chargers @ 10S and 5amps with the Iota.  That is my setup.  Each charger will draw about 22 amps.

To charge a 10S pack at 5 amps should take between 45min to an hour.  typically you might put back 3000-3600 mah after a flight so at 5 amps charge rate it should take under an hour.

I have been charging my True RC 5000ma packs as two separate 5S packs at the same time. You can charge two separate 5S packs at the same time on the Cellpro 10S as long as they are rated at the same capacity. Charge time in the neighborhood of an hour.

Mike (MUPS)
Is this the type of solder you refered to earlier?

My other hobby is loud music...

I like loud music too and yes that's great looking solder and the price is decent.

Regardless of what my kids say: "Led Zeppelin" is not old people music.

I have an Iota and a Cellpro on the way. Sold another IC airplane, so, I have cash for everything except batteries. Will be ordering a AXI and speed controller this weekend.

I now am the proud owner of a "Cellpro 10s" and a "Iota 55 amp power supply".

Newbie question of the day: What gauge wire do I use to hook the two together?

Further down the road, when I start travelling to contests, my plan is to build a charging box similar to the one outlined here on electric-f3a. But, in the interim I need a way to plug the charger into the power supply. The plan is to attach a Banana plug receptacle to the power supply. I just need to know what gauge wire to use. The 8 gauge mentioned in the charge box article seems to be considerably heavier than the power cords coming out of the charger itself. At the field I'll just use the supplied clips to clamp onto my deep cycle battery.

The heavy 8 gauge wire is so you can use all 55 amps from the power supply without having any excessive losses or heating from lighter gauge wires.  If you are only going to run 1 - 10S charger at 5amps that's going to draw about 22 amps from the power supply so you can use smaller gauge wires.  If you add another charger some day, you will just need heavier wiring at that time.  the charger box was designed from the start to not need to upgrade the wires for the future.  Let us know how your project comes along with pics too!

Anybody use a mini torch to solder with?
Harbor has one that I was thinking would be nice for the field box.

Hey Chris,
Just checking in.
How's the Defiant project coming along?
Lots of great advice here.  I've had my new "E" plane going for about a month and can't say
enough about how much I love flying it!
See you in St Louie?

Time to kick this topic up a little.  I know Dan Curtis is just finishing up his E-Defiant.  I am a little behind Dan but should have it flying sometime this year.

Both of us are using Plettenberg 30-10 Evos and Castle HV80 speed controllers.   This is my first electric pattern plane and I'm still in the steep part of the learning curve.  I have 2 Cellpro 10S chargers and the IOTA 55 power supply.  I have batteries ordered from Hobby City (Rhino 4900's) but they must have been put on the "Slow boat from China" Smiley

The only real change to the original plans for the Defiant is that the landing gear plate needs to be mounted lower in the fuselage and the gear will mount in the chin cowl instead of up in the fuselage.  The Bolly F3A large gear will give you plenty of clearance for a 21 inch prop.   I used the article Chris M. has on this site for laminating the firewall.

I've been trying to come up with a better looking option for cooling than just using a smaller spinner. I don't care for the looks of the plane with a spinner that doesn't fit the nose of the plane.  Here are a few pitures of what I've come up with.

You may want to stand back when I'm around.....     I may blow something up before I get everything figured out.  Grin
